About
Discover the experience
The two banks of Luxor belonged to one sacred landscape. On the west, the royal valleys, Hatshepsut’s temple and Medinet Habu speak of remembrance and rebirth; on the east, Karnak and Luxor Temple reveal the ceremonies of the living city. Two days give these connections room to emerge. At the Luxor Museum, individual works bring us close to the people and ideas behind the monumental architecture.
On the West Bank, the painted royal tombs open onto imagined journeys through the night; on the East Bank, Karnak and Luxor Temple recall the great processions of the living city. The museum then invites a closer look at individual works and the hands that made them.
Day by day
Your Itinerary
A day on each bank gives Luxor’s monuments room to tell their stories, from royal burial valleys to great temples and the museum.
Give the West Bank a day of its own: the royal valleys, Hatshepsut’s temple, Medinet Habu and a stop at Memnon trace the many forms of remembrance in ancient Thebes. The royal tombs were created by skilled artists who filled their chambers with images and sacred texts. At Medinet Habu, the walls of Ramesses III’s temple preserve another kind of royal story, carved on a monumental scale.

Customise this day
Follow the East Bank story from Karnak to Luxor Temple, then look more closely at individual works in the Luxor Museum. Karnak and Luxor Temple were connected by a processional way used during festivals such as Opet. The museum changes the scale of the story: after towering columns, individual works invite us to look closely at faces, gestures and materials.
