About
Discover the experience
At Abu Simbel, four colossal images of Ramesses II guard a temple cut deep into the mountain. The nearby smaller temple honours Hathor and Queen Nefertari: on its façade, the queen stands beside the king. Centuries later the temples faced a new threat, as the waters behind the Aswan High Dam rose. Their rescue required an extraordinary modern journey of dismantling and rebuilding. Exploring Abu Simbel, we can meet both the ancient vision of royal power and the people who worked to preserve it.
